Manolo Blahnik Makes Up Stories When Creates His Fabulous Shoes

Each genius takes inspiration from something. Some need to see the beauty of the sunset to design a piece that will later become a world hit. Others stay alone in a house and think for a few hours. But Manolo Blahnik doesn’t need special preparation for the inspiration to come. As soon as he starts working on a pair of shoes he makes up stories and tales.

Such an approach to the creative process makes it interesting to spend time with the designer while he works.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Lamb Shoulder Bag, Handbag of the Day

Marc Jacobs is a phenomenal designer. He pushes the boundaries and sets trends. Sometimes the world is ready for his creations and other times he is waiting for us to catch up with him. I think the latter may be true in the case of his Lamb Shoulder Bag ($495). My initially reaction was “if a gremlin had a fashionable girlfriend, this bag would be it”, but what a harsh judgment to make for a designer that I truly respect and admire. So I reserve my criticism and let the readers decide.

It’s not as though we haven’t seen fur bags before. On the runway, they are sartorial eye candy for the fur enthusiasts while opponents would vigorously disagree (and with good reason). Read full post…

Toronto: Our favourite new spot for a (healthy) power lunch

A working lunch is all too often an exercise in indulgence, crammed with cream and butter and overly salted. Four (187 Bay St., Toronto, 416-368-1444, fourtoronto.ca), in Toronto’s financial district, is a subterranean spot with the same frenzied lunch-hour crowd and cookie-cutter décor as your typical tower eatery, but its menu offers a different take that’s both good and good for you. Every dish on the menu is 650 calories or less, achieved by grilling or steaming instead of frying, and cutting down on unhealthy fats and sugars.

Question on whether jewelry is important or not has never even arisen since every woman understands the essence of this accessory. Classic pieces that will always be in vogue can become boring if one wears those again and again. So, a little diversity will make you feel more exciting about your look and people around you will notice you much more often. Jewelry trends for Fall/ Winter 2010/ 2011 season aren’t difficult to integrate into the look and the process itself will be very enjoyable.

Bold statements. This season designers created lots of statement jewelry: huge, colorful and unusual – pieces that will be remembered, those which stand out rather than just complement outfits.
